Chhattisgarh government invites public feedback on proposed Uniform Civil Code

Suggestions can be submitted until October 15

Raipur/ The Chhattisgarh government has initiated the public consultation process for the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), inviting suggestions and opinions from citizens, organisations and other stakeholders until October 15, 2026.

A five-member committee constituted by the state government is studying the need for a Uniform Civil Code in Chhattisgarh and preparing its framework. The committee will also undertake a comprehensive review of the existing laws and arrangements governing personal civil matters. The objective is to bring all citizens under a common legal framework in place of religion-based personal laws.

The five-member high-level committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, has appealed to government and non-government organisations, social groups, religious institutions, communities and political parties to submit their views and suggestions by October 15 this year.

Citizens and organisations can submit their suggestions by email at ucc-chhattisgarh@cg.gov.in, through the web portal https://ucc.cgstate.gov.in/, or by post to the Office of the Uniform Civil Code Committee, New Circuit House, Civil Lines, Room No. 201, Raipur, Chhattisgarh – 492001.

Meanwhile,Uttarakhand was the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code, followed by Goa, Gujarat, Assam and Madhya Pradesh.
